elysia xfilter 500elysia has released the xfilter 500, a 500-Series format stereo EQ aimed at processing single signals, ‘creative sound shaping’, mix bus processing and mastering.

The audio path of the xfilter 500 exclusively uses class-A circuitry, and offers high- and low-shelf bands, both of which can be switched into high- and low-cut filters with resonance (a feature taken from eylsia’s flagship equaliser, the museq). The unit also provides two mid-peak filters with switchable (wide or narrow) Q. In addition to four flexible active bands, a switchable fixed LC filter is available for shaping the high-frequency range. This passive filter consists of a capacitor and a coil per channel that produce a slight resonance around 12kHz.

By linking its two channels, the xfilter eliminates the need to match settings for the left and right channels. Stepped potentiometers allow fast and accurate recall of earlier settings.

‘The tricky technical demands resulting from the design of a linked stereo EQ have been handled with great care,’ says elysia co-founder Dominik Klassen. ‘Every dual- and quad-layer pot we buy is measured with custom computer routines, and only the good ones are used in production. A special series of low-tolerance film capacitors aims at additional precision, all for the sake of a precise stereo image.’
