Shure PG Alta seriesShure has released the PG Alta range of entry-level microphones for recording musicians.

The PG line includes two microphones specifically for vocalists – the PGA48 is a rugged design tuned for speech and karaoke applications, while the PGA58 is designed for lead and backing vocals, with a sound signature ‘inspired’ by the SM58.

Other mics in the new range are specifically tailored for use with instruments. The PGA57 is for use with electric guitar and bass, while the PGA81 is for acoustic guitar and strings, and also serves as an overhead for instrument recording. The PGA181 is suited to all instruments, including piano and ensembles for live or recording, while the PGA98H has been developed for woodwind, brass and saxophones.

The PGA27 is a very sensitive microphone for capturing vocalists and instruments with great detail and precision.

The PGA52, meanwhile, is designed for kick drums, and the PGA56 is tuned to snares and toms. The PGA98D, with its flexible gooseneck design for easy positioning, provides another versatile option for drums and percussion in live and studio contexts.

Rather than assembling a series of microphones, drums are served PG Alta kits. The PGADRUMKIT4 includes one PGA52, two PGA56s, one PGA57, and mounts and cables. The more extensive PGADRUMKIT6 includes a PGA52, two PGA56s, a PGA57, and a pair of PGA81s, plus mounts and cables.

‘Shure has updated its PG-series microphones, giving them an advanced industrial design for improved product handling, and introducing new models for special applications, such as the PGA98H for wind instruments and the PGA98D for drums,’ says Shure EMEA Pro Audio & Retail Product Manager, Ron Hautzinger.

The PG ALTA range will ship in Q1 2015.
