Aphex Microphone XAphex has released Microphone X, a high-quality cardioid condenser USB microphone with integrated analogue processing including optical compression, and the company’s Aural Exciter, Big Bottom and HeadPod 4 technology.

The Microphone X is configured to put all of the key analogue processing used for recording the voice before the conversion of the signal to digital. And all of this processing power is controllable, with input trim, headphone output level and individual controls for the Aural Exciter and Big Bottom levels. Each of the processors has its own on/off control.

The use of Aphex Aural Exciter and Big Bottom processing can provide a ‘larger than life’ radio voice for Podcasts or a warm and present tone for vocalists.

The result is a standalone system that provides the ability to record at 96k, 24-bit audio resolution via an optimised signal into a DAW via USB.

The mic is compatible with: Mac OS-X Core Audio, Windows XP SP3 (32-bit)/ASIO 2.0, Windows Vista SP2 and Windows 7 SP1 (32/64-bit)/ASIO 2.0 systems.
