Celestion has announced the FTX range of common magnet motor coaxial loudspeaker drivers.

The FTX range covers 12-inch (305mm), 8-inch (200mm) and 6.5-inch (165mm) chassis diameters, and features fully combined LF and HF components that are powered by a Common Magnet Motor Assembly (where the same magnet is used for both the LF and HF elements). This enables the voice coils (and hence the acoustic centres of the two drivers) to be brought closer together, delivering tight signal coherence and time alignment.

Each of the models features a polyimide film HF diaphragm, providing greater HF power handling. The next-generation Sound Castle soft clamping assembly reduces diaphragm stress for decreased distortion and even greater reliability of performance.

Both HF and LF voice coils are edge-wound using lightweight copper or copper clad aluminium to increase barrel stiffness and offer a closer packing density, leading to improved cooling and increased motor strength.

Additional features include demodulation rings that minimise the effects of power compression as well as substantially reducing harmonic and intermodulation distortion associated with voice coil displacement.
