Canford has launched a new range of ‘broadcast pattern’ fibre-optic termination panels.

The range features a choice of high-quality, ceramic fibre or bronze couplers and is manufactured from a rigid aluminium extrusion. Crucially for mobile and outside broadcast applications, this new range rejects the frequently fragile splicing trays provided on most datacom fibre panel designs, for a simple lace bar.

By omitting breakout trays the panels overcome two of the problems frequently associated with traditional fibre term panels – limited space behind the panel in wallboxes or vehicles and the inherent lack of solidity of stamped steel designs. Rearranging the panel channels is an infrequent requirement especially for truck operators and Canford is confident that their customers will prefer the ruggedness and simplicity of these panels and that the relatively simple chore of unscrewing four screws becomes insignificant when their ease of use is considered.

The other key benefit of a lacing bar instead of a tray is that the depth of the device is reduced. This provides more space for the engineers to work with the rack or more overall area in that location for other equipment.

The first production units are already in use with major UK names in outside broadcast, live events and specialist wiring companies.
