Adlib’s high for All Time Low
US punk-pop band All Time Low recently played dates around the UK and Europe as a teaser for their forthcoming album, The Young Renegades. Continuing a long-standing working relationship with the band and engineers Phil Gornell (FOH) and Ricky Fernandez (monitors), Adlib supplied two Midas consoles for the tour, and Adlib’s new Scottish division supplied L-Acoustics racks-and-stacks for gigs at Glasgow Academy and Edinburgh Corn Exchange – together with technician Andy Russell.
‘It’s always good to work with Adlib in any capacity,’ says Gornell. ‘Having the consoles with us throughout the tour gives continuity on the control side across the wide variety of venues on the itinerary, and having the ProX enabled me to get the best out of the different house systems we encountered.’
L-Acoustics put new performance into WNPAC
Opened in 2011 with a gala concert featuring Rod Stewart, the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center (WNPAC) is an US$81m music and theatre complex that includes a 1,800-seat performance hall, intimate 200-seat recital hall and the University of Texas music department.
As the main hall’s original PA system has consistently failed to meet the venue’s acoustical needs – the balconies that ring the interior right up to the stage make sound coverage virtually impossible using conventional sound reinforcement technology –WNPAC turned to A/V systems integrator LD Systems to design and install an L-Acoustics K2 solution.
Abbey Road Studios unveils its ‘biggest transformation’
Calling it ‘the biggest transformation since the studios opened’, London’s Abbey Road Studios has opened a Dolby Atmos Premier Accredited mix stage and two new ‘contemporary’ studios The Gatehouse and The Front Room.
Configured for Imax audio compatibility, the Mix Stage handles 4K projection and is equipped with a 44-speaker set-up and an AMS Neve DFC3D mixing console accompanied by an Avid S6 surface, eight Pro Tools systems and a dedicated HDX picture playback machine. The equipment has been supplied by HHB Communications.
Classical Spectacular 2017
Continuing the long relationship between RG Jones and Martin Audio, the Raymond recent Gubbay-promoted Classical Spectacular at the Royal Albert Hall saw a full-size Multi-cellular Loudspeaker Array (MLA) used for the main PA with an MLA Compact rig for fill.
Martin Audio’s MLA replaced a Martin Audio W8 Longbow when Simon Honywill – long time FOH engineer for the event, and Martin Audio ambassador) – specified it in November 2011. ‘Simon evangelised about MLA, and I am happy to build on the foundation laid down by him and the RG Jones team,’ says Phil Wright, who took over sound mixing duties from Honywill two years ago (on a DiGiCo SD7). Alongside him, system tech Luke Murphy used a sound profile set-up by Project Manager, Matt Sussex.
