RCF sounds out Lithuania’s largest stadium
The newly 15,000-seat Darius and Girėnas Stadium is the first football infrastructure in Lithuania to fully meet UEFA requirements. As well as being a sports stadium, it can accommodate 30,000 as a live music venue, and is currently the largest closed concert venue in the country.
Audiotonas was subcontracted as part of the build to provide RCF Audio sound reinforcement and EVAC sound systems, as well as flag-rising mechanisms and large LED video screens.
Webster University embraces Genelec monitoring
With a major remodelling of the Sverdrup Building housing the School of Communications, Webster University in St Louis, Missourihas a new suite of audio facilities including multiple fully-equipped recording studios – one a Dolby Atmos-ready control room with 7.1.4 monitoring – as well as three multi-purpose isolation rooms that can be used as iso booths for recording or writing rooms, and two Technical Ear Training rooms where students learn critical-listening skills and which also serve as small mix rooms.
All designed by V Three Studios and opened fully for the Winter 2023 semester, these rooms are exclusively equipped with active monitoring from Genelec.
PMC gains first Norway install for PMC 6-2
With a career that spans nearly 30 years, guitarist Øystein Garnes Brun is behind Norwegian black metal supergroup Borknagar and its heavy successor, Cronian. He is also the man behind Crosound Studio, located in the countryside about 30km outside Bergen, home to Norway’s first PMC 6-2 monitors.
Crosound Studio was initially intended for Brun’s own projects, but as it developed it attracted other musicians wanting to use it to record, mix and master. The new PMC 6-2s replace the studio’s earlier PMC result6s.
Gothenburg’s Nilento Studios readies for Atmos
Nilento Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden, is designed to adapt to a wide range of requirements, the latest example of this thinking being the addition of Atmos recording.
Founded by Lars Nilsson – a trumpet player who moved into production sound 30 years ago – the facility focusses on acoustic jazz and classical recording, as well as producing mixes from location recordings. Its studio space offers changeable acoustics, with the main live room able to be converted into four smaller rooms including two Iso booths, and allowing it to transform from a big-band environment into rooms suitable for choir, piano trio or a soloist.
Singapore eSports event
Staged at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and considered one of eSports largest events, the recent Defense of the Ancients 2 live world championship was hosted by the game’s developer. Calling on d&b Soundscape for an immersive audience experience, Aural Fixation owner Jason Waggoner served as live sound designer and department lead.
The sound system primarily handles game sound, announcer commentary and video playback in the arena, as well as supporting live entertainment elements. While d&b has been part of the event for several years, Soundscape was used due to be used in 2021 but Covid-19 saw the event cancelled at the last minute – making 2022 was the first time the audience was able to experience its capabilities.
