Calrec Artemis Light

The audio control for a new OB van commissioned by Croatia’s Gama Studio is centred on a 40-fader Calrec Artemis Light digital mixing console, providing a high level of flexibility and digital signal processing for improved handling of live sports and entertainment events. The  truck is already billed as one of the most advanced in Croatia's broadcast market.

‘We wanted the highest-quality systems, and Calrec has a tremendous reputation for top-of-class audio consoles,’ says Gama Studio Sound Engineer, Davor Omerza. ‘There are so many selling points – the integrated audio router, all-optical connections to stageboxes, redundancy and support for audio formats including AES/EBU, Dante and Madi. Calrec and Artemis made our choice an easy one.’

Moscow’s Maly Theatre

With recent seasons’ productions of plays authored by Bulgakov, Molière and Shakespeare underpinning its reputation for ‘set texts’, Moscow’s Maly Theatre both a cornerstone of the city’s theatre community and of Russian arts in general. The theatre is also an innovator, exploiting technology to enthral its audiences.

In this forward-looking context, the theatre’s management initiated a major audio upgrade project in 2011, working in conjunction with Salzbrenner Stage Tec Mediagroup Russia (SSMR). Now complete, the new system ranks among the most advanced in the world, complete with object-based immersive audio and adaptive room acoustics by Astro Spatial Audio.

Rock in Rio

Attracting 1.5m people to its first event in 1985, Rock in Rio ranks comfortably among the largest music festivals in the world. Having begun in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, it has since visited Lisbon, Madrid and Las Vegas, its growing live audience supplemented by TV broadcasts on Globosat – this year, supported by the first use of a Lawo mc²96 Grand Production Console at a large-scale music festival.

With an audience of 45m viewers across Brazil, Globosat is the largest pay TV operator in Latin America. Its use of the mc²96 console was part of a rental package of equipment, support and training provided by Lawo for the event broadcast. The first mc²96 sale had been made prior to Rock in Rio, with two consoles purchased by Viacom Media Networks (USA).

Xi’an Incident

A 50-speaker 3D sound installation with 3D Sound is part of China’s first live event dramatising the 1938 Xi’an Incident – the historical event widely regarded as the precursor to the establishment of modern China.

The sound system compliments 20 30-ft soft LED screens used in conjunction with performances from 700 actors in the show, which is being staged in a State-run theatre located where the Xi’an Incident occurred. The show relates to the kidnapping of the Chinese leader Chiang Kai-shek while visiting disaffected Manchurian troops at Xi’an.

Creamfields CF03

One of the world’s most famous and popular electronic music festivals, Creamfields provided the setting for Adlib to prove its technical credentials once again, supplying sound, lighting and rigging for two of the event’s main arenas – CF03 (Armada/Mega) and CF05 The Curve – and the all-important VIP and hospitality area, CF10.

The four-day festival was staged at its regular site on the Daresbury Estate near Warrington. Adlib worked directly for creative production specialist LarMac Live. On site, the Adlib crews were led by Hassane Es Siahi (Hass), who designed the audio in CF03, and Adlib’s Kevin Byatt who was project manager for all systems.
