Finland’s Helsinki City Theatre goes fully immersive
Finland’s Helsinki City Theatre recently has recently acquired ‘full immersive audio capability’, upgrading its Meyer Sound loudspeaker systems and installing D-Mitri digital audio platforms with Wild Tracks multichannel playback and Space Map 3-D panning.
The upgrade saw the system in the venue’s 947-seat Big Stage expanded to use 124 Meyer Sound active loudspeakers, with an appropriately scaled-down system of almost 50 loudspeakers deployed for the 347 seat Small Stage. This major investment in audio technology reflects a commitment on the part of Helsinki City Theatre to support its sound design for drama, Broadway-style musicals and experimental theatre.
Adlib surrounds Enter Shikari
Known for their genre-defying collage of hardcore industrial punk and heavy metal electrobeats, Enter Shikari are constantly experimenting with their live sound set-up – as on during their latest outing with a quadrophonic system.
During the initial stages of the tour’s design, FOH engineer Andy Russell sought a system that would push boundaries in audio fidelity, looking to Adlib Systems Engineers George Puttock and Sam Proctor, together with Adlib Account Manager and Director Dave Jones. Jointly, they specified Coda Audio’s AiRay for its low distortion, high output and intense clarity.
Audio onboard China’s Zhiyinhao floating spectacle
Created by the famous director and artist Fan Yue, Zhiyinhao is a multi-dimensional live theatrical performance staged on a steam ship that cruises China’s Yangtze River from its base in Wuhan City. A 1920s-styled steam ship and two piers have been built to recreate Wuhan at a time when it was China’s second largest city after Shanghai.
EZpro International was responsible for the highly creative design, installation and commissioning of the show’s audio and video systems, which deliver an immersive experience for the performers and the audience.
myMix takes orchestral role at Hollywood Bowl
When British DJ Pete Tong took his Ibiza Classics tour and the Heritage Orchestra to the Hollywood Bowl, 56 myMix Personal Monitor Mixer units graced the stage. Based England, the orchestra travels the globe supporting a variety of contemporary artists. Looking for a monitoring solution for every member of the orchestra, Fred den Dulk of Next Level Audio chose the myMix system to enable each performer to set their own preferences.
Despite the high-profile venue and complex stage production, den Dulk was assured there would be a perfect result from the outset: ‘The system is so easy to use and it always works,’ he observes. ‘We can always rely on myMix no matter how many musicians are playing.’
halo ready for Dolby Atmos
A £300,000 upgrade to the main Studio 1 film dubbing stage at London TV and film postproduction facility halo has converted the stage into a Dolby Atmos environment, based around 46 JBL loudspeakers, Crown DCi-N network amplifiers and BSS Soundweb DSP.
As one of only three cinema-scale audio mix rooms in central London, halo had earmarked this as the first phase in a comprehensive refit of the 10,000sq-ft building, after acquiring it in 2011 with the lease at 25 Noel Street in Soho. The system was supplied by Sound Technology, with technical support from Senior Application Engineer, Ben Todd.
