Tokyo Universal Music Studios

Part of an update of its mastering suites, Universal Music’s mastering suites in Tokyo have been equipped with turnkey Sadie systems for editing and mastering.

‘Universal Music was running a Sonic Solutions HD system but after testing various other systems the company decided the Sadie solution was best suited to its needs,’ says Komatsu Satoshi, Sadie Product Manager at the company’s Japanese distributor Otaritec. ‘Universal Music has installed three Sadie PCM8 and one PCM-H8 mastering workstations. It has also invested in a number of plug-ins including SNS and Cedar restoration tools such as Declick, Decrackle and Retouch.'

Used by broadcast, postproduction and mastering facilities around the world, Sadie systems are all based on rigorously tested DSP engine hardware. Depending on the customer’s requirements, each has different I/O and DSP power, enabling recording, editing, mixing and delivery methods to be tailored to individual needs. The PCM-H8 chosen by Universal Music is designed for complex processing and postproduction applications where high levels of DSP power are required to achieve high-speed, high-power processing, but without the need for large numbers of physical input and outputs. It can replay and edit 64 channels of 48kHz, 24-bit audio with real-time cross-fades and punch-ins, and offers similar DSP processing power to the PCM-H64 multitrack system.
