Designed ‘to support the brightest music tech entrepreneurs, researchers and developers’, Abbey Road Studios is to host the Abbey Road Red incubation programme.

The global programme involves the Studios selecting and mentoring three of the most promising and innovative music tech start-up companies, and then working with them for six months to help develop and grow their businesses. The programme goes live on 14 March 2016.

Providing a bespoke mentorship programme delivered by executives and experts from both Abbey Road Studios and Universal Music, and unparalleled access to Abbey Road’s facilities and international network of contacts, the inaugural three companies have been announced as OSSIC, UberChord and CloudBounce. All were recruited through an open process of online submission, followed by multiple rounds of assessment, pitching and selection.

‘Abbey Road is an extraordinary place that has been instrumental in developing and using state-of the-art technology since it opened in 1931,’ says Abbey Road Studios’ Managing Director, Isabel Garvey. ‘Abbey Road Red shows that we are passionate about remaining ahead of the technological arc and are committed to embracing the future, as well as being incredibly proud of our legacy.”

‘At Abbey Road, we are committed early adopters of technological advances in sound and recording and we have a well documented history to prove this, adds Jon Eades, Project Manager for Abbey Road Red. ‘Abbey Road Red is our way of working with today’s innovators – the music tech start-ups who are defining the future and creating new technologies. We are very much looking forward to working with our first intake to the incubator and helping them each to grow their businesses while learning from them in the process.’

The first three companies to be recipients of the Abbey Road Red support programme are Ossic 3D Headphones, UberChord and CloudBounce. California-based company Ossic is aiming to advance 3D sound in headphones for virtual reality, music and gaming. The company is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter Link. UberChord, meanwhile, is behind an intelligent guitar learning app (featured on Apple’s App Store in multiple countries) from its headquarters in Berlin

Application for submission to the second programme of Abbey Road Red in September 2016 are invited now.
