Las Vegas-based indie pop band, Imagine Dragons are World Music currently on their tour, in support of their Smoke + Mirrors album. During the tour, FOH mixer Scott Eisenberg is working on the mix of what may become a concert film shot at a show in Toronto earlier in2015.

Scott EisenbergWhen he’s done with mixing one night’s live show, Eisenberg sets up his mix rig in a hotel room or dressing room to work on the film mix. What’s enabling him to do that reliably, night after night, is a pair of Genelec 8250A SAM studio monitors with Genelec GLM software. Together, they give him a consistent monitoring environment no matter where he’s working.

‘There’s no other way this could work as well,’ he says. ‘I’m literally setting up a mix studio in hotel rooms and dressing rooms on the road.’

After mixing the night’s concert through an Adamson Energia PA system on an Avid Profile console, he takes the mix from the multitracks made on the Avid Pro Tools system he uses to record the band’s shows.

Part of the key is the ability of GLM 2.0 to analyse the room he’s in, recall all parameters and settings stored in system set-up files, and then adapt them for the acoustics of that particular space. The software features adjustment of levels, distance delays and flexible room response compensation equalisation using Genelec’s AutoCal calibration system – an integrated process for complete automated measurement, analysis and adjustment of every SAM monitor and subwoofer on the GLM network for either a single location (SinglePoint), or for one-, two- or three-person mixing environments (MultiPoint).

‘The acoustics change from day-to-day, location-to-location, but I start with a good foundation every time with the GLM,’ says Eisenberg, who uses SMAART software to tune the live-sound system as a reference for the GLM.

And it gets him there quickly: ‘I hit a button and within 30 seconds the GLM software has analysed the room, made the delay and EQ corrections and I’m ready to go,’ he says. ‘That saves me tons of time, which is something I don’t have a lot of on the road. It’s pretty amazing what the GLM software can do, and how good the 8250As sound. It’s really like having a great mix studio anywhere I am.’
