The Rooftop Bar is a new and exclusive nightspot on top of the five star St Regis Hotel Doha in Qatar. In keeping with the other clubs in St Regis chain, The Rooftop Bar had to follow a no-compromise agenda.

Rooftop Bar‘The supreme rule, from Bora-Bora to New York, is consistent quality,’ says Miguel Escada, founder of the Portuguese pro audio company Auditiv, who has recently overseen the installation of 36 black and white Lambda Labs loudspeakers at the venue.

With the interior design in the hands of a renowned Lebanese designer, and food and beverage being taken care of by a German F&B manager Marco Syrbe, Escada was in charge of sound installation. ‘I was supposed to guarantee that guests, as well as artists up here, would be provided with a unique experience,’ he says. ‘The operators wanted a perfect sound solution.’

‘The installation had to give a highly even sound distribution across the entire listening and dance area, especially in the low-frequency range. It had to have an excellent and even impulse response, and it had to be weather-proof.

Later in the evening, the bar becomes a fully-fledged nightclub, requiring high SPLs. ‘This had to be realised in a visually appealing fashion, like the one I was able to find with Lambda Labs – discreet and beautiful loudspeakers as a matter of course,’ Escada says. ‘Most of them are custom made with a shiny white Polyurethane coating and white woven front fabric.’

Fourteen white MF-15A boxes create a 40m horizontal line source and provide the entire rooftop with consistently dry bass. At 100Hz, eight opposing black-and-white TX-2A cover the terrace. As the bar’s superstructure is higher than the opposing glass front, the TX-2As on the bar side were raised to the same level as the TX-2As mounted on rods on the glass front. The Lambda Labs EPS Rigging System makes this possible, and it guarantees more consistent sound reproduction.

The six VIP lounges situated on the left- and right-hand-side of The Rooftop are also located within the reach of the MF-15A which, coupled with two wide-dispersion CX-1A loudspeakers are used for musical events. DJs can hear themselves through the CX-3A stereo monitoring next to the DJ pulpit.
