Gorilla GroupWales’ largest TV facilities company, Gorilla Group has installed two Avid S6 control surfaces and Pro Tools for new post facilities in Cardiff.

Located in the GloWorks building, a new creative industries centre and part of the regeneration of Cardiff Bay, Gorilla offers a full portfolio of audio and video postproduction services, which includes work on drama and documentaries for Sky and the BBC and cartoons for Disney and S4C.

The Avid systems were installed and configured by Scrub, a division of HHB Communications – 16-fader S6 M10 and 32-fader S6 M40 mixing systems, and Pro Tools HDX hardware and v11 software. Yellowtec m!ka mic and monitor arms were also supplied by Scrub.

According to Gorilla Senior Dubbing Mixer Tom Logan, the consoles were chosen to enable an expansion of their workflow and offer a new level of mix control: ‘The ability to spill VCA groups on the surface of the S6 is a fantastic feature,’ he says. ‘It is great to have those faders directly in front of you and jump straight into a dialogue track to make quick adjustments.’

He also reports that the latest Pro Tools HDX hardware and v11 software deliver enhancements in performance and speed: ‘The offline bounce feature saves us a huge amount of time and the system is incredibly quick when handling large amounts of plug-ins. We often use the Channel Strip plug-in on almost every track, and with the new Pro Tools hardware and Mac Pro you can use as many instances as you need without slowing down the processing speed of the session.’

‘The modularity of the S6 allowed Gorilla to choose different console configurations for different room environments, and the M40 optional large TFT displays give enhanced visual feedback and editing functions in Pro Tools that no other console can provide,’ says Devin Workman  from Scrub Sales.
