The installation of a 40-fader Calrec Artemis mixing console at NEP’s studio facility in London’s Wimbledon TV Studios complex eliminates its former need to install a flyaway console every time NEP does a show at the studios – saving both time and money.

Calrec Artemis mixing console‘Having the new Calrec console in place means we can easily attract more customers to our production service at Wimbledon Studios,’ said Paul Fournier, Head of Sound at NEP Roll to Record. ‘Having a Calrec console in a facility always sells. Calrec is a well-known brand with proven reliability, and there are plenty of freelancers who already know how to operate the consoles.’

Along with the console, NEP installed three remote stageboxes, one remote AES box, and a dual Madi box. In addition, a modular I/O box has been built into the racks in the master control room to provide further analogue and digital inputs and outputs, and GPIO control. While the console core is built into the infrastructure of the studio, the surface can be moved between production control rooms, operating via two fibre-optic connections. Calrec’s Hydra2 plug-and-play architecture means that the console can be configured to manage any of the studio floors.

‘NEP  uses Calrec consoles almost exclusively,’ says Calrec UK Sales Manager, Jim Green. ‘This installation reinforces that relationship and the level of confidence NEP has in our products.  The new console leaves NEP well-positioned to take on more work at the Wimbledon Studios and be ready for any show that comes its way.’

Presently, the console is being used on a variety of productions, including quiz shows and small light entertainment shows.

In addition to this recent purchase by Roll to Record, NEP Visions, NEP’s outside broadcast arm in the UK, has rented a 64-fader Artemis console for coverage of the forthcoming 2014 Wimbledon tennis tournament. NEP Visions will use the console as part of a flypack to complement its own Calrec desks in service at the event. It will be part of a fully featured control room attached to a dedicated studio that is responsible for full presentations and highlights, all broadcast in 5.1 audio.
