Clearcut Sound Studios’ audio postproduction service has added a full Dante network with the assistance of HHB Communications’ Soho-based specialist, Scrub.

Clearcut Sound StudiosThe installation provides real-time audio routing between four mix rooms and studio computers. Dante, an IP based audio transmission format, supports multiple digital audio channels at resolutions up to 24 bits (uncompressed) and sample rates up to 96kHz. Scrub also supplied Clearcut with HP Z820 studio computers configured with Yamaha AIC128-D Dante Accelerator PCI Express audio interface cards and Yamaha MY-16-AUD Dante expansion cards, which are fitted to Yamaha DM2000 mixing consoles. All of the Dante interfaces are connected to a Gigabit Ethernet switch with standard network cabling, creating a network that allows almost unlimited audio routing between the four studio systems.

The upgrade is complemented by Steinberg Nuendo 6 software and upgrades to the latest 64 bit plug-ins, including the Waves Platinum bundle.

Clearcut Sound Studios is a leading independent audio postproduction facility in Soho that has created soundtracks for TV, radio, cinema and digital advertising campaigns since 1993. Recent work has included the Marmite Rescue campaign for adam&eveDDB, which was named Best Television Commercial of the Year at this year’s British Arrows Awards. Studios One and Three are both 5.1-equipped facilities, with Studio One licensed for mixing Dolby Digital and Dolby Stereo sound for cinema commercials and trailers.

‘The upgrades Scrub provided give us ultra-fast speed and flexibility and a cutting edge networking architecture that we can rely on,’ says Clearcut Sound Studios MD, Chris Wrigglesworth. ‘This was part of a major upgrade to the studio as a whole, which results in more spacious mixing environments with the fastest, state-of-the-art digital audio mixing infrastructure available. Our clients have noted the benefits of the new facilities and we are very pleased with the support and services that Scrub provided throughout the process.’

‘Clearcut Sound Studios is an award-winning audio post facility whose work is admired by the industry,’ says Head of Scrub Sales, Ben Scully. ‘Dante is a technology with many benefits that can be seamlessly fit into a facility’s existing infrastructure and provide unlimited possibilities for network sharing with speed and efficiency. Clearcut Sound Studios is very happy with the upgrades.’
