As part of its recent expansion, the Gunpo Sungjang Church – located in Gunpo-si near Seoul – migrated its sound system from an old analogue system to a digital set-up based around an Allen & Heath GLD-80 digital mixing desk and ME-1 personal monitor mixer.

Gunpo Sungjang ChurchAt the centre of the action was Allen & Heath’s Korea distributor, Sama ProSound, whose brief was to install an easy-to-use digital mixer. Its choice was the GLD-80 expanded with an AR2412 and two AR84 I/O racks, accompanied by personal monitoring provided by five ME-1 mixers – making Gunpo Sungjang the first church to install ME-1 in Korea.

‘I first saw ME-1 at the Koba 2013 show, and it really impressed me, says the  Reverend Seunglee Kim, who manages sound at the church. ‘The previous stage used wedge speakers for monitoring but the current set-up with ME-1 is much better. It meets all of my expectations as it is very easy to use – not just for the sound guys but for the musicians as well.

‘The ME-1 allows musicians to control their monitor mix without a monitor engineer, which helps keep the sound levels on stage lower. I believe ME-1 is the perfect solution for churches, which do not have a professional sound engineer. Also, the OLED screen provides a very clear display. As ME-1 is compatible with GLD without any option cards, we could make the system very simple and easy to use. Supporting up to 40 signals is the best feature of ME-1 compared to competitive personal monitor mixers.’

Founded in 1984, the Gunpo Sungjang Church has a 1,200-capacity main worship sanctuary with two floors, as well as a break-out worship area and a cafeteria.
