Primetime Emmy Engineering AwardThe 65th Primetime Emmy Engineering Awards, saw Lawo awarded an award acknowledging ‘achievements that exhibit a high level of engineering and are important to the progress of the industry’. Sennheiser, meanwhile, received the Philo T Farnsworth Award, recogninsing contributions that ‘have significantly impacted television technology and engineering’. Named after the inventor of electronic television, Philo Farnsworth, this is not awarded every year.

Held Los Angeles, the event’s jury recognised Lawo’s work with audio networking technologies, and pioneering the use of telecommunication protocols – such as ATM/SDH (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) and Ravenna (real-time Audio-over-IP technology) – in the distribution of broadband audio in real time over WAN networks that can be thousands of miles apart.

The Emmy Engineering jury regards Lawo's developments as paving the way for audio networking, and the creation of Lawo’s Nova series routing matrices. With their modular construction, dual star network topology and scalable routing capacity of up to 8,192 x 8,192 crosspoints in a single frame, the Nova series audio routers are used successfully by broadcast engineers worldwide, providing reliability, flexibility and enhanced workflows.

Daniel Sennheiser and Dr Andreas Sennheiser accepted the Emmy statuette ‘on behalf of the passionate Sennheiser staff that helped to create innovative audio products and have provided impeccable customer service in the fields of TV and broadcasting.’
