Malaysia’s TV industry took a further step into digital operation with recent upgrades at two broadcasters’ facilties.

Three broadcast studios at Pay-TV channel Astro-TV have been equipped with mixing systems from Stagetec – two studios in the All Asia Broadcast Centre (AABC) at Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, have taken delivery of Aurus consoles and a corresponding Nexus network. The Studios now have identical Aurus desks, each with 48-fader frames subfitted with 32 faders. Both consoles feature 114 audio channels and 128 buses.

‘We are delighted that Astro-TV has opted for Stagetec systems after extensive testing of all relevant manufacturers’, says David Chan, head of Mediagroup subsidiary in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. ‘The decisive factors included the superior live qualities such as ease of operation, reliability and superior sound quality as well as the availability of all audio resources across the entire audio network giving extra flexibility. The Dolby E encoding and decoding and HD capabilities of Nexus were also slated as system advantages.’

Local sports channel Astro Arena launched earlier this year, and has chosen a Stagetec Crescendo desk for its new surround capable studio. Similar in power to the AABC installations – the Crescendo desk at Astro features 140 input channels and 64 buses. The Nexus is ready for high-definition embedded audio thanks to the provision of 14 Nexus XHDI cards.
