UK TV industry PA and monitor systems supplier Plus 4 Audio has added an APG Uniline modular line array system to its inventory – the first of its kind in the UK.

APG UnilinePlus 4 Audio serves the London Studios, Fountain Studios, Maidstone Studios and the BBC, as well as providing OB for shows such as the Mercury Music Prize, Sports Personality of the Year and The Voice.

‘I’ve been looking at Uniline for a while now, and have always been attracted to its power-to-size ratio, which is very important in a TV studio environment,’ says Plus 4’s Stewart Chaney. ‘However, when APG launched the UL210D down fill element, which is actually a system in its own right, I started to believe that Uniline would be an extremely interesting addition to my rental stock. I was finally convinced by a trip to Paris where TV rental specialist, Silence [the French equivalent of Plus 4 Audio] had used a Uniline system for the French version of The Voice. I was extremely impressed by the way in which the Uniline system adapted to all of the constraints thrown up by working in a TV studio and yet still sounded great.’

‘It has everything I’m looking for,’ he adds. ‘It’s powerful, light-weight, easy to set up, and most importantly, the modular nature of the system means that I can configure it according to the requirements of the show. It will handle big outdoor shows just as easily as small, intimate gigs, so it really is an ideal system for our rental market.’

Plus 4 Audio’s system comprises 16 UL210 two-way active line array loudspeakers; eight UL210D downfill speakers; 16 TBS118S single 18-inch subs; eight UL115B bass loudspeakers and four DMS26 digital loudspeaker processors.

Uniline saw its first major event for Plus 4 Audio recently, being used for the main stage of the MAD About Waddesdon festival – a celebration of Music, Arts, Dance and Drama that culminates in a series of concerts that are open to the general public.

Chaney reports that the Uniline system was well received: ‘It covered the site extremely well and sounded good,’ he says. ‘We were all extremely impressed with its throw capability. Its size is really quite deceiving; I’d definitely consider using it for some of our arena shows under the right circumstances. There’s a lot more under the bonnet that you might think.’

The system adds to Plus 4’s existing APG inventory of DX12 compact monitor speakers, purchased in September 2010.
