ACETA

Following the survey conducted on pro audio/entertainment industry trade shows by the Australian Commercial and Entertainment Technologies Association (ACETA) earlier in 2011, the key body has collated the responses and presented its findings.

In a covering letter, Sara Hood reported a total of 337 responses – ‘far more than anticipated’. ‘The calibre of response was excellent – there are many thoughtful and insightful comments which have been useful in taking these discussions forward with the show organisers,’ she said.

The findings will not make comfortable reading for the Australian shows in question, nor do they augur well for the broader international trade show players. But they do provide data that can be used to improve the standard and content of shows worldwide.

The report finds the AMAC and CEDIA shows had limited appeal to the respondees, and concentrates its attention on SMPTE, ENTECH and Integrate. Comments strongly suggest that there is growing dissatisfaction with all shows, pointing in part to the increasing role of the internet in information dissemination and also to the damaging effects of competition between trade show organisers.

‘Sustainability is clearly the issue,’ the letter concludes. ‘Dissatisfaction with the current event/show calendar is high, even among those exhibitors who have had positive recent experiences. That said, each of the events has a core of good support as well as their detractors, but no one event is so strong as to dominate the market.’

The letter, and both delegates’ and exhibitors’ reports are posted here in full.
