The Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) in Guildford (UK) has introduced a new Radio Broadcast Higher Diploma Course, which will begin in September 2011. The course will be run in conjunction with the Eagle radio commercial station, allowing students to gain essential industry experience alongside their tuition.

Students on the course will also get their hands on a new 24-channel SSL Duality Console the is being installed in the Academy's Audio Production studio. The console will be commissioned ahead of the 2011/2012 academic year to serve students on Music Production, Sound Design and Radio Broadcasting courses.

‘Our new flagship studio will be a state-of-the art teaching facility as well as being available for ACM students to use for their own projects,’ says ACM Head of Audio Production, Antony Greaves. ‘This compliments the eight studios and two music IT suites in our Guildford campus to further enhance our already great reputation for Music Production, Sound Design and Radio Broadcasting education. Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on that SSL.’

‘ACM. has an enviable reputation for excellence that has grown out of providing first-rate teaching facilities and great teaching and support stuff,’ adds SSL’s Dan Duffell. ‘The Duality will give students invaluable hands-on experience of a system which genuinely integrates analogue and digital workflow in a single system. Duality has proven itself as a superb teaching platform, appreciated by lecturers and students alike. It will also help prepare their students for working in the commercial world because it is precisely this combination of analogue technology and DAW control which they will encounter in commercial production environments. ACM are the first UK educators to install Duality and we are confident that it will prove as successful for them as it has for so many of our clients in the US and around the world.’

The alliance with SSL extends the music education model provided by the Academy of Contemporary Music.

Founded in 1995, ACM boasts an impressive placement rate within the music industry. ACM UK is home to 1,200 full-time and 400 part-time students and offers MA and degree courses, as well as CertHE and Btec programmes in a number of practical music disciplines including Music Production, Creative Sound Design, Radio Broadcasting, Tour Production & Management and Music Business. The courses work to meet the needs of the music sector and its changing skill gaps, and the Academy development team actively seeks out opportunities for its students.

In 2008, ACM won the Queen’s Award for Innovation In Education and saw two of its students, Newton Faulkner and Amelle Berrabah (Sugababes) secure UK No.1 albums.

In 2009, following successful relationships in South Africa & Europe, ACM opened the first of its U.S academies, ACM@UCO in Oklahoma City in association with the University of Central Oklahoma. In 2010, ACM opened the Artist Development Centre in Guildford.
