Brenda Caplen has joined newly-formed ICT solutions provider Gearhouse ICS.
Formerly with Evaluate Interactive Event Systems and Conference Communications, Caplen brings 17 years’ experience of the Southern African conference and events industry through its busiest and most prolific period. She Thabiet Waggie, Ashraf Omar, Ofer Lapid and Nasser Abbas as Director and handles the Johannesburg operation as part of her remit.
‘In Thabiet, I saw the opportunity to get involved with someone with the same business approach and beliefs as myself.’ she explains, ‘We had already been collaborating on a number of jobs informally and with the establishment of Gearhouse ICS, he saw the potential of adding my specialised experience to the ICS mix as well.’
ICS offers a complete conference and event solution, from registration to audience response systems and promises to add new services as they become available. Caplen’s experience with audience response systems, speaker management, simultaneous interpretation services, radio frequency identification and delegate registration systems fits well with the ICS brief.
As the official partner of Infowhyse, Caplen also has the backup and experience of this Germany international technology company to complement Gearhouse ICS’s progressive approach to technology. Her previous experience on the technical side of the business saw Caplen working directly with clients and audiovisual, computer and interpretation teams. After she launched Evaluate Interactive, a stand-alone interactive systems provider, she continued to project manage events for other companies to ‘keep her hand in’, so a hands-on approach is nothing new for her.
‘This is a dynamic new space to explore, with enormous scope for growth,’ says Caplen. ‘My passion has always been to find ways of integrating new techniques and ideas into something fresh and innovative to make the lives of event organizers, speakers and delegates easier and more streamlined. Gearhouse-ICS offers me that opportunity on a much larger scale.’
